Who's invited
Anybody who love faeries and other magical creatures. This includes little faeries, pixies, elves and their friends (known in the human world as children!), but also includes older brothers, sisters, parents/guardians, grandparents and friends. In fact, the more the merrier - the pageant is a community and family event, and we would love to see as many people as possible.
When
Saturday 19th November 2011.
Time
The parade runs from 10.30 until about 11.30 or 12 noon, but all participants must be ready to take part by no later than 9.55am. (We are positioned towards the front of the parade, so should finish early).
Dress
Faeries are very inclusive members of the magical realm and you are welcome to come dressed as any magical creature. This includes faeries, mermaids, pixies, elves, wizards, and dragons! We'll be rainbow faeries again this year, so please feel free to be as colourful as you wish.
It is really easy to make a costume ‘Christmassy’ – just add a garland, necklace or anklet made from tinsel from your box of Christmas decorations! We love adults taking part in the parade to dress up as faeries and angels– but if you are not that brave, please try to wear something pink and/or green and Christmassy. If in doubt, please call us.

What to Bring
Sunscreen, hat and water bottle (as we will have to wait for the parade to start) and camera if you’d like some photos. We hope you won’t need an umbrella – however the parade is never cancelled if it rains.
What NOT to Bring
We have been asked by the organisers to remind everyone that participants can not bring lollies to throw into the crowd (or anything else that might encourage children to run onto the road). For this reason, we are also unable to blow bubbles while parading.
RSVP
If you would like us to have a record of your mobile number, please RSVP with your name and your children's names and your mobile number by Friday 18th November. You can do this by phone (6224 8731) or via email (mailto: faeries@faeries.com.au).
Parade Route
The parade will travel from Argyle Streets (outside the Hobart Private Hospital), turning left into Liverpool Street, left into Harrington Street, then left down Collins Street to finish back near the corner of Collins and Argyle Streets.
On the day
We are Entry Number 9, and gather in Campbell Street between the intersections of Liverpool and Collins Street. Our site will be marked with a witches hat (and the number 9 on it). We have been asked to approach our spot from the Liverpool Street end of Campbell Street. We will have our faeries gathering in the area so we are easy to locate, but if you are not sure how to find us, please ask a marshal to point you in the right direction, or you can call Gillie on 0439 45 0439. All participants will be required to wear a sticker to identify them as taking part in the parade.
Free parking is available on the Regatta Grounds, so you can park there and walk to the assembly point. There will be lots of information about parking restrictions and bus timetables in The Mercury newspaper on Friday the 18th of November. There is also information about parking restrictions and bus timetables on the Hobart City Council's
Christmas Pageant Website.

During the parade
We find that children have the most fun, and are most confident if they are taking part with a friend or family member. Parents are welcome to accompany children (and bring younger faeries in strollers).
We will have a number of adult faeries with us on the day to help us, but it is a very busy day with many people. So, it is important that a parent/guardian remains with their children until the parade starts, and remains close by in case a child needs to withdraw from the parade for any reason. (Some parents walk the route as a spectator although there are so many people watching that it can be a little tricky).
Watching the end of the parade
Quite naturally many of the children who participate in the pageant love to watch the rest of the parade after they have finished. We expect the Council to have the same arrangements in place as last year, when the Hobart City Council had a cordoned-off area for pedestrian parade participants in Collins Street, in front of the Hobart Private Hospital. Our group finished there and children were collected from this area at any time after we have concluded.

Post-pageant entertainment
Some of our faeries will be providing post-pageant entertainment in the Elizabeth Street Mall (from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm) and in the courtyard outside Myer on Liverpool Street. We will be making Christmas faerie crafts, telling stories and inviting children to write letters to Santa. We hope you can visit us in both locations for some faerie fun. We'll also have storytelling at The Faerie Shop until 2.30pm.
Collection
Children can be collected at the end of the parade from the participant's viewing area in Collins Street (in front of the Hobart Private Hospital). A faerie will remain with the children until all children have been collected. The best way to quickly find your children is to walk with us or follow us as we go.
